Dell PowerEdge R740 Xeon Gold 6134 rack server

The PowerEdge R740 is a 2U, 2-socket rack server designed for high-performance workloads. This configuration ships with an Intel Xeon Gold 6134 CPU (3.2 GHz, 8 cores, No Hyper-Threading), support for accelerator cards and scalable storage, and enterprise management features such as iDRAC9.

This unit includes the Intel Xeon Gold 6134: 3.2 GHz base frequency, 8 cores, 24.75 MB cache, 130W TDP, No Hyper-Threading. It uses a 3UPI link to the platform. Thermal cooling provided is a standard heatsink for CPUs up to 125W.

This configuration includes RDIMM memory modules: a 16 GB RDIMM (2666 MT/s, dual-rank) and a 32 GB RDIMM (2666 MT/s, single-rank). The R740 platform supports DDR4 RDIMMs at high speeds (actual supported speed depends on CPU and DIMM population).

The server ships with a 1.2 TB SAS 10K 2.5" HDD. The chassis supports up to eight 2.5" SAS/SATA drives in the 1-CPU configuration, enabling higher storage density and scalability.

Yes — the system includes a PERC H730 RAID controller (minicard). The specification shows a default 'No RAID' setting for HDDs/SSDs in this configuration, but the PERC H730 provides hardware RAID capability and can be configured for RAID levels as required.

iDRAC9 Express is included for out-of-band management. You can monitor, update firmware and perform remote management tasks. iDRAC can be upgraded to Enterprise and integrates with Dell OpenManage for more advanced lifecycle and systems management.

This configuration includes a 750W hot-plug power supply. The system supports redundant (1+1) power supply configurations, but an additional power supply unit is required to enable true redundancy.

ReadyRails™ sliding rails with a cable management arm are included for rack installation, simplifying mounting and servicing in standard 19" racks.

The listed riser configuration (Riser Config 1) provides 4 x8 PCIe slots. This supports accelerator cards, NICs and other PCIe devices; slot population and available lanes depend on CPU and riser selection.

Yes — the R740 was designed to support accelerator cards and GPUs for compute-accelerated workloads. Keep in mind power, cooling and riser configuration constraints (750W PSU in this config); high-power GPU setups may require higher-capacity PSUs or alternate configurations.

This configuration includes a 3-year Basic Hardware Warranty with 5x10 (business hours) hardware-only coverage and 5x10 Next Business Day (NBD) on-site service. Specific service details and options can be expanded with Dell ProSupport plans.

The PowerEdge R740 series commonly supports enterprise OSes such as Microsoft Windows Server, various Linux distributions (Red Hat, SUSE, CentOS, Ubuntu), and VMware ESXi. For exact supported versions and drivers, check Dell's support matrix for this R740 configuration.

Firmware and driver updates can be applied via iDRAC9 (Lifecycle Controller) or Dell Repository Manager. Dell's support site provides the latest firmware, driver bundles, and update instructions for the R740.

This R740 configuration is well suited for virtualization, database workloads, VDI, general-purpose enterprise compute, and GPU-accelerated inference or analytics (with appropriate accelerator and power/cooling configurations). It offers a balance of CPU, memory, storage expansion and management for demanding environments.
