The principle is to heat two surfaces to a specified temperature and then fuse them together by applying pressure. This pressure causes the metal cover material to flow, causing it to mix and fuse together. When the polyethylene pipe is heated, its molecular structure will change from a crystalline state to an amorphous state. When pressure is applied, the molecules at the end of each tube are fused together. When the connection was cooled, the molecules returned to the crystalline state, the initial interface was gone, and the two tubes had become a tube of the same nature. The resulting pipe joint will be as strong or stronger than the two pipes themselves.
