Energy recovery ventilation (ERV) is the energy recovery process in residential and commercial HVAC systems that exchanges the energy contained in normally exhausted air of a building or conditioned space, using it to treat (precondition) the incoming outdoor ventilation air. During cooler seasons the system humidifies and pre-heats. An ERV system helps HVAC design meet ventilation and energy standards (e.g., ASHRAE), improves indoor air quality and reduces total HVAC equipment capacity, thereby reducing energy consumption and enable an HVAC system to maintain a 40-50% indoor relative humidity, essentially in all conditions.

Selection of air flow:

First of all, the selection of air volume is related to the use of the site, population density, building structure, etc
Explain with domestic residence only now for example:
Refer to the Design Code for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning of Civil Buildings (GB 50736-2012) to calculate the fresh
air volume.
The specification provides the minimum amount of fresh air duct (that is, the “minimum” requirement that must be met). According
to the right table, the number of air change cannot be less than 0.5 times /h. The effective ventilation area of the house is 85㎡,
the height is 3M.
The minimum fresh air volume is 85×2.85 (net height) ×0.5=121m³/h
When selecting equipment, the leakage volume of the equipment and air duct should also be added, and 5%-10% should be added to the air supply and exhaust system.
Therefore, the air volume of the equipment should not be less than: 121× (1+10%) =133m³/h. Theoretically, 150m³/h should be
selected to meet the minimum requirements.
For residential recommended equipment selection reference to more than 0.7 times of air change; Then the air volume of the
equipment is: 85 x 2.85 (net height) x 0.7 x 1.1 =186.5m³/h
According to the existing equipment model, the house should choose 200m³/h fresh air equipment! Pipes must be adjusted according to air volume.
